Must-Know Tips for Visiting Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas Resort

From how to get there to how to save money and when to visit, we’ve got the scoop!

Flying Southwest Airlines to Nassau

You can fly to Nassau, Bahamas using Southwest Airlines hopefully, with points you’ve earned using the many techniques we teach. If you’re especially savvy, you’ve earned the coveted Southwest Companion Pass, so one person in your party pays NO airfare, only the taxes and security fees each way.

Nor do you have to pay for checked bags (Southwest lets you check two bags FREE), whereas other airlines charge as much as $60 for the first bag and $80 for the second! What?! Be aware that normal taxes of $5.60 per ticket apply flying TO Nassau, while departure taxes can be as high as $120 FROM Nassau.

Marriott Points

Did you know that you can book a stay at Atlantis using Marriott points?

If you hold the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card, you may get a free night certificate that grants you up to a 35,000-point room free (and you can add up to 15,000 points to that certificate to book a more costly room) or you may have gotten an offer where you get three to five 50,000 point certificates when you signed up for the card.

Depending on the number of Marriott Bonvoy points you have, you can redeem them at one of the following:

With Marriott’s dynamic pricing, you’ll have to do some digging to find nights you can book with points. Remember that when you book 4 nights with points at Marriott, you get the 5th night free.

Keep in mind that the resort charges a service fee and resort fees and Marriott never waives resort fees or taxes on award nights. Additionally, each room allows 2 guests but then charges $50 per person per day for each guest over 12 after that, even on reward stays. Check all the fees and fine print including their cancellation fees before you book!

If you’re having trouble booking for just 1-2 nights, try booking a longer stay and then call to cancel some of the nights.

Capital One Miles

If you hold a Capital One Venture X card, you can book a stay at Atlantis through the Capital One travel portal.

You could use your $300 annual travel credit toward The Reef or The Royal at Atlantis and book the remainder of your stay with miles. Or really, really splurge if you have lots of miles and stay at The Cove!

Activities at Atlantis

You’ll definitely want to check out Atlantis’ AMAZING water park!

All Atlantis guests get full access to Aquaventure, which has…

  • 11 swimming areas
  • 8+ water slides
  • Rapid River tube ride
  • Paradise Lagoon
  • The Dig Aquarium
  • Predator’s Lagoon
  • Marine life habitats
  • Ocean beach area
  • and more!

Beach towels are free daily within the water park.

TOP TIP: If you still have an afternoon free after checking out of the resort, you can hit the beach or the water park and come back to a suite to rinse off and change before heading to the airport. This perk is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so be sure to ask for it and ask early!

You can enjoy free movies if staying at Atlantis and your kids can feed the stingrays and sea turtles in the Coral Tower at no cost, as well. Pick up a daily schedule to find even more free activities.

Atlantis Alternative: Comfort Suites Paradise Island

Another option is to stay off-property at the nearby Comfort Suites Paradise Island.

While staying at this hotel, you’ll have access to all of the Atlantis amenities, including Aquaventure. Who knew?!

From just 12,000 Choice Privileges per night, depending on your dates, you’ll be within walking distance of Atlantis. How does a free hot breakfast each morning sound amongst many other amenities?

Comfort Suites DOES levy charges even on points stays, so be sure to read all of their fine print and understand the full charges BEFORE you book. You don’t want any surprises when checking out.

However, this is still a great deal, as a one-day adult ticket to visit Aquaventure can cost up to $195 per person! Ouch! 🙁

Arriving by Cruise Ship and Just Want to Head There for the Day?

Using Choice points to book a one-night stay is the absolute cheapest way to go!

What I said above will be completely relevant to you as well because YOU CANNOT MAKE SAME-DAY RESERVATIONS AT COMFORT SUITES AND GET WRISTBANDS TO ATLANTIS.

This is implicitly stated on their website during the booking process–

So, if you are headed there on a cruise, book ahead of time, and then pop in to get your wristbands and walk over to enjoy everything Atlantis has to offer.

When done, walk back over to your room, where you’ll be able to shower and change, and then head back to your ship. Just don’t delay in booking, thinking you can do it on the day you arrive in port, or you will be sadly disappointed! 🙁

Need Choice points? We suggest opening a card_name. These points are transferable to Choice Privileges.

When to Go to Atlantis

Because Nassau is a frequent stop on cruises to the Bahamas, if you are not arriving there by cruise ship, plan your days at Atlantis when fewer cruise ships are in port.

Use Cruisemapper or CrewCenter to check the number of ships scheduled to be in town. On a very busy day, up to 6 ships could be in port, which is a lot of people to disembark on Nassau. Atlantis will be their No. 1 destination!

Take advantage of the People-to-People Experience or some of the other things to do in Nassau if you find yourself there on a day when there are many cruise ships in port and you don’t want to spend your day at Atlantis, which I mention in my article: 17 Unforgettable Things to do in Nassau, Bahamas.
